DeGALE GETS BARR

E-mail Print PDF

Olympic champion James DeGale will tackle Matthew Barr in his sixth professional fight at Wembley Arena.

The 23-year-old will fight in London for the first time on February 13, and couldn't have asked for a better venue, just a stone's throw from his Harlesden home.

DeGale, who took gold at the 2008 Olympics in China, will look to build on five wins out of five since turning professional a year ago.

Three of those opponents have been stopped, and after a nervy start, the north Londoner is looking increasingly assured.

Barr, from Walton on Thames, has 14 wins and five defeats, stopping six of his victims.

The 32-year-old southpaw has won seven of his last eight fights, and will take on DeGale at super-middleweight.

  1. A fight with Groves doesn't make any sense yet. It will be a much bigger fight in around a years time when both should be knocking on the door of a genuine title. As much as I would love to see it now I think this one will be like the old saying "The Best things come to those who wait."
  2. i can not for the life of me understand why degale is disrespecting my friend and long time gym mate matthew barr. Everything i read about the 13 feb fight its about how degale is looking past matt and focusing on groves.
Well let me tell anyone who care to listen degale has bitten off to much with matt i know what the team thought on this one yer matt hasnt been active in the last few years and yes he cuts but please dont kid yourselfs he bangs like a horse kicks and is a far better boxer than degale ever dreamed he was himself.
So ok a cut may happen and maybe a flash knockdown but thats when the fun starts for my man any last regest james Degale.
  3. hasnt matthew barr only had 2 fights in 4-5 years??
and ranked behind nathan king, who james has already beat!!
  4. Can Frank shed any light on wether or not they are interested in taking the Groves fight that Adam Booth has been quoted to have offered them? Think it would be a great fight and an excellent platform for both if not a touch early in their careers though.
